NEWS

As far as the title is concerned, there is none. News, being the plural of new, would suggest that there is something new happening, something of substance worth expending the energy necessary to create a new blog that nobody reads. Alas, this is not the case. This blog is merely an electronic diary filled with mindless dribble originating from a nerve center that is suffering from a severe lack of stimulation. But mostly, this is an effort to maintain dexterity in digits used to much more rigorous training, and to continue the evolution of using unnecessarily obtuse language to impart extraneous importance on otherwise nonsensical ruminations.

My fantastic adventure of a birthday.

March 7th, 2009 actually started on March 6th with a dope dinner at Delta Cafe. mmmmMMMmmmm. Mixed BBQ pork on texas toast with mac and cheese and collard greens. Add a lil aardvark sauce, and damn it's good. So good, I don't even remember which beer I ordered! Woke up wicked tired and a bit sore from all the chipping at pop's house the morning before, but hell, it's my birthday, who gives a shit? While Bets headed to the airport to figure out her trip home, I hopped on the Motobecane

and headed to Dan's classic parts for an old GM seatbelt to use on the messenger bag I've been planning. It was a nice ride, around 8 or 9 miles to the store, but I got a flat tire a couple blocks from the destination. No big deal says I, for I am better prepared than a boyscout, and always bring along all tools necessary to fix that which breaks on the bike due to average use. Then my steering became looser than Octomom (topical I know, but she's gross and the perfect analogy for some loose ass steering), and I looked down to see this...

A nicely broken stem, all the way through. Luckily the bolt didn't snap, cause that's all that was separating me from a face that would make Michael Jackson cringe. Happy Birthday to me..

This I cannot fix with my trusty tool kit, so ask wom to come pick me up, my head down and shamed to the max. But, being the fantastic woman that she is, first words out of her mouth are...
LET'S GO TO A BIKE SHOP!!!!
So, we pack the bike up into the Civvy, and head to Citybikes Co-op, which was only a few blocks away on Ankeny. Now, I figured I'd just pick up a used stem, and possibly some griptape, but probably not cause I'm one poor mother. Then I hear wom sneak up to the counter and hand the lady her debit card, for whatever. Now, it's my birthday, and I just realized what my present is... a stem, new grip tape (cork!) and a cross lever to replace the ghetto lever I bought a few weeks ago!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!

So in the end, I'm glad my bike broke on my birthday, cause now it's closer than ever to being finished. At 5 we left for HOPWORKS on Powell, and met with the family for dinner. Ordered a beer sampler as an appetizer, and a chicken sammy for dinner. Good conversations, awesome cards and gifts, an overall A+ birthday dinner. Then wom busted out her delicious made-from-scratch blood red cake with frosting of similar origins. Luckily, I had Lucas there to help me blow out my candles, and clean my face with his supreme aim. 2 year olds are hilarious, even when they spit on you as they try to blow out the candles on your cake.

After dinner we met up with friends at the Green Dragon for a few too many beers, but I had a blast. Definitely ended up being one of the best birthdays I've had in a long, long time. Thanks to everyone who showed up, I look forward to seeing you all soon.

As for me, well I'm unemployed and officialy in my late 20's. But still, I love life.
